6 Reasons Why Breakfast is the Most Important Meal of the Day
You probably heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day… Yet many of you go on skipping it!
It could be because you just don’t have enough time to prepare something, or maybe you’re just not hungry in the morning. Either way, the saying is not just an old wives’ tale.
Now before you roll your eyes and disregard this post, let me tell you 6 reasons why breakfast is the most important meal of the day – especially if you’re trying to lose weight.
1. It helps boost your metabolism
While many factors affect how fast or how slow your metabolism works, it is always working. Your body burns calories even when it’s at rest, working to digest and keep your organs working.
However, your metabolism does slow when your body goes to sleep, because it has to do less to survive. Eating a healthy breakfast in the morning helps jump start your system by getting it to digest and transport food, and in turn ignites your metabolism.
2. It helps prevent unhealthy cravings
It may seem like skipping breakfast will save you some calories, but for some people, the opposite is true. Just like going too long between other meals can make you feel peckish, skipping breakfast can affect you in the same way.
How does this work? Skipping breakfast makes your blood sugar drop down even lower than it was from the fast overnight. The result is you are hungrier and have less energy. This can set you up to impulse-snack.
Which leads us to …
3. It could help you lose weight
Eating a healthy breakfast could help curbs cravings later in the day, helping you stay on the right track with your diet. Choosing a healthy breakfast that will not only fuel your day but keep you full for hours could prevent bad food choices later in the day.
To set yourself up for success, choose something that is healthy, filling and delicious. High fat and protein contents will keep you fuller for longer and curb unhealthy cravings.

4. It could enhance mental performance
You may have seen those cereal commercials that show that kids who eat a good breakfast perform better in school.
While at PrimalPaleo we don’t advocate wheat-filled cereal, we do believe there’s truth that eating a good breakfast can help enhance attention, memory and learning. Food fuels your body and your brain, and gets you ready to perform well throughout the day.
Go for omega-3 rich recipes, such as dishes containing fatty fish, linseeds or chia seeds, for optimum results.

5. It could help your heart health
According to a study conducted by Harvard Medical School, men who skip breakfast are 27% more likely to develop heart disease or suffer a heart attack. Yikes! Skipping breakfast could make you more prone to weight gain, as well as high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
Another study found that men who skipped their morning meal had higher chances of suffering a heart attack or dying from coronary heart disease.
In other words, chowing down in the morning is an easy way to protect your ticker.

6. It could lower the chance of diabetes
The study mentioned in the previous point also stated that skipping breakfast could eventually lead to diabetes, too. In fact, diabetes.org also states that eating breakfast may lower the risk of type 2 diabetes.
In adults, eating a high-fiber breakfast (such as these delicious Broccoli Egg Muffins) can help prevent weight-gain and can lower the risk of diabetes.
On the flip side, adolescents who continually skip breakfast may have a higher chance of metabolic syndrome, disorders that could lead to diabetes.
There is a lot of truth in the old saying, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. If you’re skipping breakfast regularly, it could be seriously affecting your health.
Eating a healthy breakfast comprised of protein, fat and fruits and veggies can help prevent cravings and weight gain, while also enhancing your mental performance throughout the day and preventing heart disease and diabetes.
